Newsman Semi-Retires in the North Okanagan PDF Print E-mail
Kaye Corbett of Whispering PinesKaye Corbett likes his little valley at Whispering Pines, west of Vernon. The idea was to retire there, but he can’t stop “scribbling.” He contributes to World Net Daily, has a couple of books in the works, writes his own news website which focuses on Israel, and has been writing a column for the Vernon edition of the Daily Courier since its inception. Corbett grew up in a farming village in Nova Scotia. He remembers getting dressed up in his best clothes at five a.m. to tour a German submarine, which had been captured from the enemy. His father worked on the ships.  “He was a good man,” said Corbett.  “He never said a harsh word.  I remember being shocked when he hit me on the back of the legs with a stem of goldenrod after a friend and I went to a far field and set it afire.”
His mother was a softball player and a highland dancer until she developed Multiple Sclerosis. Anne Corbett became so disabled that she could not walk at all and was expected to die. Corbett remembers a game in which he and his father made a “choo choo train” in order to move her about the house.
Then one day, when he was ten, a Nazarene Missionary group asked if they could pray for her when they met at 10 o’clock.  She was entirely healed at precisely that time and is still alive and busy today at 90.
This event and the subsequent birth of a miracle baby brother were pivotal in Corbett’s life and the column he wrote about it years later produced the most responses of any he has ever written.” I was going to be a minister when I was young,” he said.  “I was a regular little Billy Graham.”
But he drifted away from his Christian roots.  He was playing football and writing for the Hamilton Spectator when a buddy introduced him to his future wife. “I used to dress up and I drove a Cadillac convertible. I thought I was a top dog. We went to the swimming hole and Eddie and I really hit it off. We have really not been separated since that first date 37 years ago.”
Since then Corbett has written for the Toronto Telegram, the Toronto Sun, the Edmonton Sun, the Messianic Times and World Net Daily.
While in Edmonton he also did some acting, playing a carnival wrestler in Running Brave and a bouncer in a movie with James Coburn and Kirk Douglas. Later he had his own TV sports interview show and a daily Christian radio show.
Corbett was sent to Israel during the Gulf War and he developed a love for the country that has been central to his life since then. “My heart is in Jerusalem. These really are the last days. Dramatic things are going to happen soon.”
Corbett also developed a keen interest in Ethiopia when he was there during the civil war.  He has written a book about the royal family to be called The Glory of the King. “Ethiopia was a highly respected nation with high levels of education.  It was the only Christian nation in Africa,” he said.
According to Corbett God has directed his course even during the years when he wasn’t serving Him, and if it is His will the future will bring a return to Jerusalem and continued productivity.
