Our story this month on the Summerland Adult Hockey School led us to Denis Edwards of Summerland who is an eager participant.

 Denis missed the school last year but has signed up for both adult sessions this year. Originally from Belleville, Ontario Denis made his way west through Calgary and Penticton before finally settling in Summerland with wife Bonnie.

Having played hockey in his formative years and football throughout high school Denis had to give up hockey while working in his career with Greyhound Bus Lines and concentrating on raising his sports minded family. Yes - Denis and Bonnie's daughters are accomplished runners and skaters. Nearing retirement Denis was looking for something to do when he first heard about, and then joined, the Penticton Seniors where he continues to play with the over 60 team and participates in the odd Senior Oldtimer Hockey Tournament.

In addition to playing hockey regularly throughout the season Denis maintains an active fitness regimen by walking and cycling. Denis practices both long-distance and mountain biking using the many mountain trails around Summerland as well as the KVR and Cross Canada Trails. Congratulations Denis - you are an inspiration and sterling example by encouraging all seniors to get involved and participate in active and challenging sports.
