Grant Wheeler PDF Print E-mail

They refer to him as 'The Dynamo' or 'The Stickman' as he winds up his wheels and charges up the ice avoiding the checks of much younger men. Some have even suggested that we carry water buckets to cool the blades of his skates; but senior hockey player Grant Wheeler takes it all in stride as he smiles wanly and slowly skates back to his assigned position at defence. Since his early childhood playing in the Public School Leagues in Saskatoon, Grant has honed that competitive hockey playing edge and carried it into his business and social life.

Relocated to Oliver in the late 40's where his father bought, owned and operated the Orchard Café and Billiard Hall, Grant has been a force to be reckoned with in the South Okanagan Hockey scene. To this day Grant is a player, organizer, referee, proponent and promoter for the joys of playing hockey well into the senior years.

Grant is convinced that playing 'Seniors' hockey has kept him physically and mentally young; he believes it is one of the better, more enjoyable ways to maintain health and fitness. Grant has every intention to be skating, refereeing, playing and promoting senior hockey in Oliver well into the future. Carry on Grant! You are an inspiration to all active seniors engaged in leading active, sporting lives.
