Our SSP of the Month is an avid Summerland senior oldtime hockey player who comes to us by way of Regina, seven of the provinces and a good part of Europe. After a lifetime of organizing sports and social events it is difficult for Jerry Flaman to not get involved in a big way in anything he does.

Building on his military career Jerry joined and then graduated from the Parksville Golden Oldies Sports Association (PGOSA). It was in Parksville where Jerry found the likes of Howie Meeker and other accomplished hockey greats who imprinted their knowledge and hockey skills (sometimes not very nicely). In addition to playing hockey a minimum of three times a week in season Jerry is a representative for All Canadian Investment Corporation (ACIC), he is involved with the Summerland Adult Hockey School, the Summerland Senior Oldtimer Hockey Group and plays hockey regularly with the Penticton 60s.

He spends a small part of his time freelance writing, writing the odd special article for valley newspapers, and contributes monthly to a sports column for The Seniors Choice. Jerry also writes public relations articles and press releases for a growing number of non-profit organizations.

He has recently taken up the daunting task of learning music while attempting to play the keyboard, guitar and a few other stringed instruments. Jerry lives by the mantra that we don't stop playing because we get old - we get old because we stop playing!
