Observing the sport of 'fitness walking' in the Vernon Multiplex led this writer to an introduction to several interesting seniors and in particular to a fast-walking couple that have gone well beyond the norm. Our sports personalities of the month are Margaret Fedovich (nee Bashaw formerly of Ponoka, AB) and Frank Ferroux (formerly of Germany and Stoney Plain, AB) who, since October 2004, have walked the equivalent of the distance to Puerta Vallarta, started over again, and have again walked the equivalent distance to Anaheim, California.

Although they did not mention how many 'blowouts' they experienced in their walking shoes we can be sure those distances have strained the budget for replacement footwear; not to mention concrete replacement and maintenance at the 'Plex'. Not only does this entertaining couple walk but they are active gardeners, and have travelled across Canada in their RV twice. In the summer they are on the water regularly paddling canoe and fishing at the Mica Dam, and yes - here it comes; they are active dancers as well. Margaret and Frank can be seen tripping the light fantastic at Br 25 RC Legion, at Cedar Ridge and at the Armstrong Guest Ranch. Congratulations Margaret and Frank, you are indeed an inspiration to all active seniors engaged in active sports.
