Senior Sports Personality of the Month – Jan 2008 (Murray  Dea)
Sample Image
Our SSP of the Month is an avid sports participant from Penticton. In his younger days in Edmonton, Murray Dea played competitive high school and college baseball, basketball, and football. His greater love of course was ice hockey where Murray played at senior competitive levels in Edmonton and throughout Central Alberta. A serious and recurring shoulder-injury put a stop to dreams of advancing into the higher paying professional leagues, while his brother Billy went on to play with New York Rangers, Detroit, Chicago, and Pittsburgh .  Then, as with many a dream, Murray found a paying career in the Alberta oil industry where he played hockey when and where he could as dictated by the working tour of regular postings throughout the oil industry. When he retired in 2000 and following on from a lifetime of participating in competitive sports Murray Dea continues into his 73 year playing senior oldtimer hockey with the Penticton 60s hockey group. Murray lives by the mantra that we don’t stop playing because we get old – we get old because we stop playing! Congratulations Murray you are a sterling example of active seniors continuing to play active sports.
