The subject of GEOCACHING places focus on an energetic and enthusiastic proponent of the sport. The diminutive and engaging fifty-seven year Sheila Wheelhouse of Vernon was introduced to GEOCACHING by her adult daughter during an Easter visit last year. Since that time she has introduced her eighty-two year old mother to the sport and has accumulated 263 caches, of which some have been located in the most picturesque areas of the province. If Sheila has her way we know that she will be doing her best to get to many more.
Sheila who has always enjoyed an active lifestyle of walking and hiking was suddenly sidelined from the workforce due to injuries that placed her on long-term disability. The forced inactivity led to an unwanted sedentary and isolated indoor lifestyle that just didn't fit with her personality. Geocaching now provides the outlet for physical activity that she needs and volunteerism has brightened her interaction with the social set. In addition to providing her much needed presence to the Vernon Hospital Auxiliary, the Red Cross, and the Halina Centre; Sheila can also be found at the Shubert Centre in the company of other seniors.
Sheila welcomes enquiries about geocaching and is ready, willing and able to get people started. Well done Sheila you are an example to other seniors who need to get out, get involved, and get moving. For more information about geocaching contact Sheila at
