The BC Seniors Games Society was organized in 1987 with the assistance of the Recreation and Sports Branch, Ministry of Municipal Affairs, Recreation and Culture. The BC Seniors Games Society exists for the sole purpose of promoting active participation in sport and recreation for B.C. resident seniors aged fifty-five years and over.
The Seniors Games are but one way to help seniors enrich their lives by remaining active and keeping fit. Although competition is an important part of the games, active participation by seniors in sport, recreation and culture is the goal. This year The Games will be held in Abbotsford from August 23 to 26, 2006.
For purposes of The Games the province is organized into 12 zones with an organizing committee responsible for ensuring maximum representation and participation and for conducting timely, well-coordinated playoffs for each of the events. The Zone Committee is also responsible for publicizing and generating interest in participation, local fund raising and registration of all competitors. While participants are responsible for their own expenses, each zone tries to subsidize a portion of each competitor's expenses through local fund raising as well as business and corporate sponsorships.
As many as 4000 active seniors from all corners of British Columbia will be competing in this year's BC Seniors Games in Abbotsford. Any senior who is interested in competing in the 2006 BC Seniors Games should contact the respective Zone Sport/Event Coordinator. To assist the following information is provided:
Zone 5 (Okanagan - Similkameen). Zone 5 Boundaries includes the areas surrounding and including Armstrong, Enderby, Kelowna, Keremeos, Midway, Oliver, Osoyoos, Peachland, Penticton, Princeton, Summerland, Vernon, and Westbank. See the Contact Box below.

In addition to participating and spectating anyone of any age can be a volunteer for the BC Seniors Games. Opportunities are available in Sports Coordinating, Coaching, Fundraising, Membership, Publicity and Promotion. Anyone interested in volunteering within their Zone should contact the Zone Director. Those interested in volunteering at The Games should contact the BC Seniors Games Abbotsford 2006 office.
The City of Abbotsford has pledged to stage a fiscally prudent, highly successful 2006 BC Seniors Games. These games will not only leave a lasting impression on the Community of Abbotsford, but will create special memories for all who participate.
