February is the perfect month to get away from the cold, snow and ice. The easiest choice for a hot get-a-way seems to be Mexico, on the pacific side, as it is only a 4½ hour plane ride away. But why not look at an interesting alternative? Costa Rica will provide you with a warm climate and offers relaxing beach vacations on the pacific coast and also the opportunity for Rain Forest adventures.
You can get to Costa Rica by plane or by sea. Sunquest Vacations offers packages with flights to Liberia from Vancouver and Calgary. If you are flying in to San José, Fun Sun Vacations offers the unique ability of transferring you to the different areas of Costa Rica. This gives you an opportunity to stay at 2 or 3 different locales.
For ocean goers, Costa Rica is a favorite tour day for Panama Canal repositioning cruises at either the ports of Limon or Puntarenas. Both ports offer unique day excursions to the Rain Forest. Popular trips are the aerial tram ride, the butterfly park, an eco-jungle river adventure, banana or coffee plantation excursion. A hike in the rain forest is also a must, as you will experience Costa Rica's unique ecosystem. Costa Rica is hot and humid. Wear light clothing and take a light rain jacket (just in case). For the more adventurous there are White Water Rafting trips and Zip Lining over the rain forest, and I have tried both!
