Senior Sports Personality of the Month - May 2005
Rube Thompson
Spring golf is in the air. With so many seniors remaining involved in that healthy, happy, active pastime far into their eighth and ninth decade it was extremely difficult to choose one to represent that august group.
The honour this month has fallen upon Rube Thompson of Penticton. An active octogenarian golfer Rube took up the game seriously about ten years ago and makes a point to golf at least three times a week. He is an active member of the Twin Lakes Golf Course located just a few kilometres west of Penticton.
Rube is also an active senior hockey player and a musician. He is a member of The Senior Strings where he plays the Mandolin. The Strings play at a variety of Senior Care facilities and churches in and around Penticton.
Keep up the good work Rube. You are indeed a sterling example of an active senior involved in active sports while leading an interesting, fulfilling life.
