The funeral and cemetery industries are separate and distinct, and are regulated by separate laws
- funeral prices are not regulated - can vary widely - cemetery charges can vary, but are regulated by the Ministry of Labour & Consumer Services - price of memorial markers is not regulated - it is wise to shop around.
If you choose to pre-pay funeral, cemetery and memorial costs: - ensure funeral operator or cemetery is registered with Registrar of Cemeteries, Ministry of Labour & Consumer Services - never sign a contract without full understanding - it is wise to look at it with a lawyer, relative or family friend - any pre-arranged funeral plan contract can be cancelled up to time of death - once you buy, you have no legal rights to cancel cemetery plot or memorial marker except, if purchased within your home you can cancel within seven days by sending letter to seller - funerals cannot be sold by telephone solicitation - a salesperson may enter your home to sell pre-paid funeral only after receiving written invitation from you 24 hours in advance

Non-profit, charitable organization whose purpose is to promote knowledge and understanding of psychological, sociological, physical and spiritual dimensions of dying, death and bereavement.
