 Kevan van Herd
Kevan van Herd was born in a little town in Northern Saskatchewas called Central Butte. His mother still wasn't at her "best" when the nurse asked for the baby's name, so out of the confusion came the spelling of the name "Kevan" instead of "Kevin" At age 18 Kevan was accepted into the RCMP as a Sub-Constable (under age 21) and took training in Regina. After a few years he left the Force in order to join the Navy, as there was a war on. He became a photographer after his discharge from the Navy, and eventually had his own studio in Port Alberni. He moved on to work for "Ma" Murray in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek which eventually saw him as Editor of the Peace River Block NEWS in Dawson Creek. Kevan obtained a degree as "Hearing Aid Audiologist" and when he came to Kelowna he worked for a while visiting Rest Homes in the area and helping the hard of hearing with their hearing aid problems. At present, Kevan is all but retired completely, but still writes a column on "Your Hearing" and another column "This'n'That" for Seniors Choice. Eventually Kevan intends to retire again, but isn't sure about the date. At age 79 he still considers that he has lots of ideas to contribute.
