Geo-thermal Heat PDF Print E-mail

Piccadilly Terrace

Drilling started April 9th on the first of 65 holes for Geo-thermal heat at the new, 91 suite Piccadilly Terrace Retirement Residence. This new, seniors housing facility being built at 810 10th Street SW, Salmon Arm, BC, will have the latest in state of the art heating and cooling technology. The system will require over 30,000 feet of plastic pipe inserted into 250 foot deep holes under the parking lot. That's over 9 kilometers of pipe!

Pumps will push a water based solution through the pipe where it will be warmed to the earth's year round temperature which is approx 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius). It is then circulated throughout the building where each suite will have its own heat pump to extract warmth or cooling as desired. It will also heat the building's hot water to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

The system will cut the energy costs to heat and cool the building by over 60%.
This should help ensure the residents won't be subjected to the fluctuations of natural gas prices. It will also prevent approximately 100 tons of carbon dioxide emissions being released into the atmosphere every year from using conventional heating.

The drilling will take two to three weeks.
